Curiosity is the size of a small car, and it has being driven around to explore Gale Crater since its arrival on August 6, 2012. This self-portrait combines 57 images taken with an imager on the end of the rover's arm, so it does not show the arm itself. Curiosity is tasked with looking for enviromental conditions favorable for life in preparation for a manned missions to Mars, and here it is scooping samples of the sand for analysis in its on-board laboratory.

You can see a report about Curiosity in the dunes in video report from NASA.
